The band’s name is derived from the campus of their high school, Roseville Area High School. Hippo Campus is an American rock band from Saint Paul, Minnesota, consisting of Jake Luppen ( lead vocals, guitar), Nathan Stocker (guitar, backing vocals), Zach Sutton (bass guitar), and Whistler Allen (drums). Hippocampus has been described as “a emo revival band that’s actually good” and their sound has been compared to that of early-2000s emo bands such as The Get Up Kids and Jimmy Eat World. The album, “Reveries”, was released in the fall of 2016 to critical acclaim. In 2016, the band added drummer Andrew MacKelvie (ex-The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die) and began working on their debut LP. The three of them began playing shows around the city and self-released their debut EP, “Honey”, in the summer of 2015. In early 2015, Nicky recruited friends Matt Fazzi (ex-Taking Back Sunday, Happy Body Slow Brain) and Mikey Carnevale (ex-The Story So Far, Daybreaker) to help turn the project into a full-fledged band. After self-releasing a handful of songs online, the project began to gain some attention in the DIY scene in New York City. Hippocampus began in the fall of 2014 as a bedroom recording project of singer/songwriter Nicky Palermo. ![]() The band consists of members Nicky Palermo (vocals/guitar), Matt Fazzi (guitar/vocals), Mikey Carnevale (bass) and Andrew MacKelvie (drums).
